Birthday time & Early July

Two weeks before my birthday, Gabe bought me tickets to see Michael Bublé in concert. I had missed the San Diego show because it was sold out. We'll be venturing to San Jose to see him in August, 6th row non-floor seats. I'm super excited!

Gabe had not decided what the festivities would be until the week of. Most people who know me, know that I can't stand making plans at the last minute. It irks me. But we ended up changing plans since it was just us two. Friday we skipped sushi and went to Gordon Biersch. I had a buy  one, get one free entree coupon for my birthday. Saturday, we took our time and went to the fair. We skipped out on the beerfest, since it was pretty expensive. We toured the exhibits, including viewing all the dahlia flowers (my favorite). Then we watched the Swifty Swine Racing pigs. They were so adorable. Piggys racing for oreo cookies. And even saw Swifty swim. It was pretty entertaining.

Sunday was my actual birthday. Yep, I am now in my late 20's which some people (Gabe and my siblings) like to rub in. My phone was ringing most of the day with phone calls, texts, and Facebook messages from family and friends. It's a good feeling to know they care. There still were several who I thought were closer to me, but turns out not since they did not contact me, or Gabe. Oh well, their loss to not be courteous to continue to be a part of our lives.
Gabe went out and brought me flowers while I made breakfast. We skipped out on going to the pool and instead I put Gabe to work. I want our condo to look a little more homey and lived in. So I asked Gabe to help me rearrange some furniture and put up some picture frames. Then I made some Spanish rice while Gabe prepared ingredients for our mini BBQ with a few friends. My mom had also sent a cake, which was delicious! We finished off on Monday by using my free cupcake coupon at Babycakes.

The next week was pretty slow at work. It must be the anticipation of a holiday weekend that makes time drag on during the week. A lot of people also took time off, except us since we didn't have any plans. We attempted to go to the fair one last time but couldn't find any parking. By the time they were starting allowing more cars to park in the main lot, we were exhausted from being in traffic for over two hours, so we just went home.

Saturday we got our workout by going to the zoo, twice. We had been trying to go for a few weeks, but hadn't made it. We went for a couple hours in the morning. Saw a beautiful Hawpe eagle, and even the tiger in action. Too bad the giraffe feeding was sold out. I came home to lounge while Gabe went to visit his grandma. Then we watched a tv movie and went back to the zoo. We had never attended "nighttime zoo" during the summer. We saw the koalas alert and eating. Even the jaguar and lion were pacing waiting for their dinner.

Sunday we went to a friend's bbq. I took some fried zuccini slices with marinara sauce, while Gabe took ribeye steak and some beers. It was a lot of fun. I especially liked watching the rounds of flip cup. Monday, we mostly took it easy and cleaned up around the house. Then we went to a friend's house to watch the fireworks from his rooftop. We ended up watching three or four simultaneous fireworks shows. The weekend of course, went by too fast.

It was nice getting back to work only four days. The week had been pretty warm and humid. A couple coworkers and I had to start our morning walks one hour early to avoid the heat. Thursday was nice with an early dinner with a few Gabe's coworkers, and one previous coworker/mentor.

Friday was the worst. Not because of the heat though, as it seems to start cooling down that day. But the afternoon dragged on. After work we ran a couple errands, then went out to Sushi Friday with friends. We ended up as a larger party than expected. So we ended up waiting about 2 hours to be seated. Luckily we had found a space to gather by the bar, and snacked on some spicy garlic edamame. After dinner we wandered to a dive bar and played a little pool.

Saturday morning I was hurting. I knew I hadn't consumed any seafood (being allergic) but it must have been the alcohol. I woke up early to feed the cat, then napped. Gabe grabbed us some breakfast and I felt better only for an hour. I showered then started to feel sick. I was going with the sisters-in-law for a mini pampering session hosted by Mary Kay. I had won the session from a bridal fair a while back, and was allowed to a few other with me. As we waited in the car to pick up one of the girls, I opened the car door and began heaving. Then stopped to pick up the other two girls and almost vomited again. Finally after a quick trip to the restroom, I felt instantly better the rest of the day. Our mini pampering session was so nice, entertaining, and fun. We got to sample some of the products including having hand and facial treatments. I go back next at the end of the month for another free consultation.

Afterwards, we ate sandwiches and passed the time watching the food network with Gabe's grandma. Then we met a friend for a movie, Transformers 3. The special effects were great. After picking up another friend from the airport, we came home. Gabe played video games while Mia and I curled up in bed.

This morning we slept in and made breakfast together. Gabe tended to making omelettes with bacon while I made fresh berried smoothies. Now it's all about cleaning... There are still plenty of piles of sewing and scrapbooking stuff to sort through so that our spare room looks more like an office, or as Gabe says "Man Cave", than just junk everywhere. I decided I will begin migrating to digital scrapbooking, and started cleaning out a lot of the stuff I've saved over several years. We'll probably end up lounging after dinner, while dreading going to work on Monday.
