First of all, the bridal boutique screwed up royally. I inquired about the dresses at the end of January. It had been 3 weeks since I'd heard from the store without an update. My gown was scheduled to arrive in Sacramento around March 16, instead of the original February 28 date. The bridesmaid dresses were not scheduled to arrive until April 12. Seriously only two weeks before the wedding!! These arrival dates were definitely unacceptable! Especially since we had expressed urgency from the very beginning, and the fact that myself and most bridesmaids did not live in the area. The boutique received an earful from myself and my sister. We were able to get the designer to approve to ship the bridesmaids dresses out sooner, for an additional fee.
Then was happens? Just days after my originally lashing, I get a phone call. My dress has arrived. WHY did they provide me with incorrect information? It didn't make sense. Luckily, my Maid of Honor was able to pick up my dress and bring it to me last week during her visit. I will be taking it in to begin alterations this month. The bridesmaids dresses should arrive no later than March 30.
Next, I verified with the venue when we would be able to begin using the bridal dressing room. I needed to start thinking of how to coordinate for the girls who wanted to get their hair and makeup done. My hair and makeup artist, and her team, will provide onsite services on the big day. Unfortunately, we won't have access to the bridal dressing room until 3pm, which is the same time that the entire wedding party needs to be at the venue and ready for pictures. So, those girls getting hair and/or makeup done, will most likely have to meet at my place, or the salon.
We also have a new ring bearer. Unfortunate circumstances have risen possibly preventing my nephew and his parents to attend the wedding. Since things weren't 100%, Gabe and I decided to ask one of my bridesmaids (and her husband) if their son could participate. He is the most adorable, well-behaved 1 1/2 year old we know. Thankfully, they said yes!
We finally moved out of our crappy place, and even got a little money back from our deposit. It took more truck and car loads than anticipated. Thanks to our friends for their generous help! You really don't realize how much shtuff you have until you move. We really tried not to hoard and ended up purging a lot of stuff. Even created a huge pile of stuff to donate.
Our new place is awesome! No more fake wood paneling on the walls, or magnets that don't work to hold the cabinets closed. No more tile counters either. We have granite counters, a dishwasher, instant hot water, lots of windows and light, plenty of storage space, gas fireplace, a washer/dryer inside, and central shared bbq area. Gabe really likes the dishwasher since he hates doing dishes by hand. Although, he is learning. He was so excited to use the dishwasher for the first time, he put as many dirty dishes as he could fit. Unfortunately now, our stainless steel steaming pot has a blackish tint, and has a date with a baking soda cleaning this weekend. The washer/dryer has lots of settings, and takes a long time to dry. It steam dries (sometimes shrinks too), but is so convenient. We also have a small shared laundry storage space, along with free use of the large washer and dryer. The openness between the living room and kitchen makes the place feel so spacious. We seem to have lost some storage space in the spare closet, but we now have attic space. I am vertically challenged though. We need to invest or borrow a small ladder, to get to the space.
Princess Mia (the cat) was weary at first and more skiddish than normal. She would hide in the spare room when someone would come to the door. She is enjoying the large windows and bird watching now. A couple times she started to crouch in attack mode, and we thought she was going to run into the window.
We have been unpacking the spare room on and off. We need to transfer boxes to clear storage bins. The wedding boxes seem to be taking up the most space. Hopefully we can get the place in decent shape, and decorate a little, by the 12th for our housewarming fiesta.
We went to a catering fair at our venue and fell in love with some select items. Our venue only offers tastings three times per year, not on an individual basis. We were amazed at how many people were there. The day was perfect. The skyline was gorgeous! We saw the sunset, and checked off our list of foods we tried. The following day, we met with our venue coordinator and finalized our wedding reception menu.
Last week we worked on our invitations. Gabe helped a lot by making sure all the documents were inside, in the same language, then sealing all the envelopes. Bestie and I completed the invitations with wax seals. I got them mailed out on Saturday while Gabe was enjoying his bachelor party weekend in South Lake Tahoe. Gabe, some groomsmen, and friends, enjoyed the beautiful views and snowboarded.
Sadly, just this week we had to reschedule our engagement photo session. Monday morning I woke up with a dreadful coldsore. I quickly took my doctor prescribed medication, but one burst and turned into two sores. I alerted our photographers, and they advised me to reschedule. I would have my trial hair and makeup done for our portraits, but the artist would not be able to do my makeup because cold sores are contagious. Our new appointment is scheduled two weeks from now on March 13.
